Who is your hope in?. In a Single Hour. Awana Planning Meeting

Grace Huber Heights
In a Single Hour | August 16th 2026 Sermon Recap | 5 Day Devotional Inside

Who is your hope in?

The sermon on Sunday explored Revelation 18 and the coming fall of Babylon the Great, understood as the collapse of the world's corrupt economic and governmental system. Drawing on the contrast between Babylon, representing chaos and confusion, and Jerusalem, representing peace and shalom, the message challenged us to examine where we are truly placing our trust. While the rulers, merchants, and seafarers of the earth will mourn the destruction of everything they built their lives upon, those whose hope is in Christ will have reason to rejoice. The central question posed to each of us was simple but searching: when everything is stripped away, who is your hope in?

Takeaways:

  • God calls His people to come out of the world's system and to hold earthly possessions loosely, remembering that everything we have belongs to Him and is temporary. As Corrie Ten Boom wisely said, whatever God places in our hands must be held very loosely.
  • Vengeance belongs to God alone. Rather than seeking to repay those who wrong us, we are called to overcome evil with good, trusting that God will judge rightly in His time, as described in Romans 12:17-21.
  • We are called to build our lives on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ rather than on the sinking sand of wealth, power, or worldly systems. As Randy Alcorn reminds us, you cannot take it with you, but you can send it on ahead by investing in the kingdom of God and in the lives of others.

As you go through this week, we encourage you to pause and ask yourself honestly where your treasure lies. Consider how you might redirect your time, energy, and resources toward what is eternal. The things of this world can be gone in a single hour, but what is built on Christ will stand forever.
